If You Want It

from Not Afraid of Nothing

Lots of people say, "You cannot love that way," but I don't know what they mean.  Isn't a home supposed to be wherever you make it?  If there's a God up there, I wonder if he/she cares who we love and how, whether we scream it right out loud, or save it for later.  I can't see the stars from here, I wonder where you are.  I wonder who you are.  Tell me where to go, I'll be there, if you want it.  Well, I don't get much sleep, but when I do, it's deep--falling into dreams.  Dreams fall freely through the night with no one to catch them.  Well, that's where you come in:  Lord knows that you have been something I hold true.  No one can do the things you do--and I don't expect them to.  But I can't see the stars from here.  I wonder where you are.  I wonder who you are.  Tell me where to go, I'll be there, if you want it.  We all still have our moments when we don't know where to run.  Love has been a game and I'm not sure if we have won.  The moon is hanging high above the mountaintop so low.  I wish we could watch our breath tonight and make castles in the snow.  But New York City lights are what I see tonight, shining out so loud.  I am standing in a crowd:  I am no one.  I think I'll call my friends and watch December end, and with it, a New Year.  One where we lose all of our fear, 'least that's what I'm hoping.
